PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject pressure regulator without any troubles caused by tar in dry distillation gas from the coke oven and, to provide a method for pressure regulation. SOLUTION: This pressure regulator is provided with a plurality of pressurized fluid feeding lines serving as pipings for feeding pressurized fluid into a nozzle 3 communicated with a riser tube 2 in a coke oven and can feed pressurized fluids differing in pressure from one another into the nozzle 3 in time sequence, and the objective method comprises; previously investigating relationships between coking time and pressure of the carbonizing chamber and between nozzle pressure and pressure of the carbonizing chamber, and changing the nozzle pressure using the relationships in time sequence.
