PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a column to be uniformly cooled on the whole as waste heat treatment is easily carried out. ;SOLUTION: In a machine tool 1 which is provided with a bed 2, installing a column 3 on this bed 2, and installed with a spindle head 6 on this column 3 free of shifting and driving, each coolant flowing hole 5e is formed in four coners on a horizontal section of a body 5 of a column 3 extending over almost the total height of the body 5, and two supply ports 5h, two discharge ports 5j, coolant supply pipes 11, a cooling unit 12, a coolant tank 13 or the like are connected to these four coolant flowing holes 5e, while each coolant flowing hole is filled up with a coolant 15, while this coolant is connected to these coolant flowing holes free of supplying and recovering operations.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
