PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring on-line and with high accuracy the amount of process-induced martensite in a metastable austenite type stainless steel band. ;SOLUTION: The interval from the surface to the lower end face of a metastable austenite type stainless steel band 1 being passed in a predetermined plate passing direction D is 1 to 4mm, a high frequency current of about 50kHz to 2MHz is passed to an exciting coil 13 to form a magnetic field, an eddy current produced in the steel band 1 by the magnetic field is detected using a detecting coil 14, and the amount of induced martensite in the steel band 1 is measured in accordance with the detected value.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
