PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a liquid ink developed image compact on an image substrate surface by providing a biased electrode for sectioning an adjusting gap and a liquid material applicator for filling the adjusting gap with a liquid insulating material, so as to prevent air dielectric breakdown in the adjusting gap. ;SOLUTION: The liquid insulating material applicator 70 which is arranged to be adjacent to or near the surface of a photoreceiving body belt 18 and provided with a conductive electrode 76 is provided. The liquid insulating material flows toward the photoreceiving body belt 18, to fill the gap between the belt 18 and an image adjusting device 27. Further, when the belt 18 is moved in the direction of an arrow 16, a part of the liquid insulating material is moved together with the belt 18, to fill the adjusting gap between the conductive electrode 76 and the surface of a photoreceiving body, so that the air dielectric breakdown is out of danger. Toner grains for forming a developed image on the surface of the photoreceiving body are repelled by a bias applied to the conductive electrode 76 and compressed or compacted on the surface of the photoreceiving body.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
