PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual sound image localizing coefficient calculation method that calculates a coefficient group which is used for a clue to estimate an amplitude frequency characteristic of an acoustic transfer function to an optional azimuth angle, a propagation time or a propagation time difference between left/right ears and to provide a coefficient table preparing method to store the coefficient group. ;SOLUTION: Each major component that is a base to express an amplitude frequency characteristic of an acoustic transfer function from each sound source position to ears of a listener in terms of linear combination is extracted, each coefficient when a major component weight coefficient denoting contribution of the major component to the amplitude frequency characteristics is expanded by using sets of sine and cosine functions for a direction of the sound source is calculated for one or both ears of the listener and each of the coefficients is used for a virtual sound image localization coefficient. Furthermore, each coefficient when a propagation time from each sound source position to the ears of the listener or a difference between both of left-right ears in the propagation time is expanded by using sets of sine and cosine functions for direction of the sound source is calculated for one or both ears of the listener and each coefficient is also used for the virtual sound image localization coefficient.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
