PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size and weight of a refractive index medium and to obtain high diffraction efficiency even if a hologram photosensitive material is formed to a smaller thickness by making reproducing light incident on the main surface of the refractive index medium from the end face of the refractive index medium at a prescribed angle with the normal of the hologram film formed at a prescribed thickness on the main surface of the medium. ;SOLUTION: The hologram photosensitive material 1 is applied on a glass substrate 2. For example, a silver salt emulsion, dichromate gelatin, etc., are used for the hologram photosensitive material 1. 'Pyrex (R)' glass, soda glass, etc., are used for the glass substrate 2. The hologram photosensitive material l exists on an object point 3 side. The object light 4 is made incident on the hologram photosensitive material 1 in a range of 0° to -200° preferably to a Z-axis and reference light 5 in a range of -92° to -122° preferably with the Z-axis, by which interference fringe are formed on the hologram photosensitive material. These interference fringe are recorded as holograms after a development stage. The reproduction of the image is executed by irradiating the holograms with the reproducing light from the direction of the reference light 5, by which the image is produced in the position of the object point 3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
