PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform automatic analysis with high precision and accuracy using an image analysis technology by putting a sample liquid containing tangible components on a light- transmissible plate and then picking up the image thereof. ;SOLUTION: A sample liquid, i.e., a urine specimen, is stirred and a required quantity thereof is dispensed into reaction tubes 19a, 19b and 19c. A required quantity of dyeing liquid is then injected into the reaction tube 19a and a reaction liquid of the sample liquid and the dyeing liquid is demarcated and injected into a slide glass 5 integrated with a cover glass. The light from a light source lamp 7 is then passed through a condenser lens 8 condensed in the sample liquid on the slide glass 5 and the sample image of a tangible component in the sample liquid is formed at a focus position through an objective lens 9. Subsequently, the sample image picked up by means of a CCD camera 10 under control of an image processing control circuit 12 and digitized through an A/D converter 13 before being processed through a feature extraction circuit 15 and an identification circuit 16. A central control section 17 accumulates the classification results of image over the entire field of view and converts the accumulated results, along with the number of microorganisms received from an operating circuit 22, into a qualitative data based on a previously inputted boundary value and delivers the qualitative data to an output unit 23.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
