PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate between a gas pipe and a water supply pipe by quickly heating an arbitrary portion on a surface of a pipe to be searched, continuously measuring a pipe surface temperature at a heat source center point, a constant distance point from the heat source, and a temperature correction reference point, obtaining thermal conductivity every constant time, and comparing the gas pipe, water supply pipe, and reference thermal conductivity. ;SOLUTION: A discrimination sensor 1 and a temperature sensor 2 for reference temperature are attached to a surface of a pipe B to be searched, and an attaching portion of a heater 12 on the surface of the pipe B to be searched is quickly heated. Next, sampling due to temperature sensors 13, 14, and 2 for a heat source center portion, for a constant point, and for temperature correction reference temperature is started and a timer starts counting. A temperature due to the temperature sensors 13, 14 and 2 sampled by set timing (for example, 1 second) is inputted to a control portion, and thermal conductivity is calculated. It is judged as to whether not thermal conductivity is within the range of reference data of the water supply tube or gas pipe pre-memorized, when it is within the range the fact that the pipe B to be searched is a water supply pipe or a gas pipe is displayed at a discriminated result display portion.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
