PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a monitoring method, for the burnup of a fuel, in which a burnup monitor is moved easily between a plurality of nuclear reactor facilities so as to be used in common and in which the burnup of the fuel such as a spent fuel or the like is measured nondestructively and to obtain a simplified burnup monitor which is small and which can be dismantled, disposed and assembled easily. SOLUTION: A simplified burnup monitor 25 is provided with a monitor 27 on and to which detector containers 33, 34 used to house radiation detectors 35, 36, 38 in a detector holder 30 are mounted and attached, with a monitor holding means 28 at which the monitor body 27 is installed in a prescribed monitoring position so as to be detachable and with a measured-signal processor 43 to which detector signals from the radiation detectors 35, 36, 38 are transmitted via a signal line 41. The monitor holding means 28 is installed at a pit wall on a spent nuclear fuel transportation cask, at a pool wall on a fuel storage pool 12 or at a part of a mobile fuel handling machine 17 so as to be detachable. Then, the burnup of a fuel assembly such as a spent fuel or the like is measured and monitored nondestructively by the simplified burnup monitor 25.
