PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vessel for growing a crystal capable of growing a high quality lithium borate single crystal without a crack and a bubble with a growing rate more rapid than the conventional one, and further to provide a method for producing the lithium borate single crystal by using the vessel. ;SOLUTION: This vessel 1 for growing a crystal has a felt 12 of a graphite arranged between a crucible 10 of graphite or platinum and a suscepter 11 of the graphite. The felt prevents a crack caused by a stress by the difference of thermal expansion coefficients of the growing crystal 4 and the crucible 10 on the inner surface of the crucible 10 by the plastic deformation of the crucible 10, and acts so that the deformation of the crucible 10 may not be blocked by the suscepter 11 because the felt acts as a buffer. A high quality lithium borate single crystal having ≥3 inch diameter and 80-150 mm length is obtained at a growing rate of 0.3-1.0 mm/hr faster than the conventional rate.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
