PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control pH more precisely and rapidly than before by mechanically and automatically controlling the pH of the liq. in a gaseous sulfur dioxide cooling vessel without being controlled by an operator in coke-oven gas desulfurization. ;SOLUTION: The amts. of C gas 4' and air 5' to be blown into a sulfur combustion furnace 1 are determined based on a matrix process by using the pH values of a liq. 6' in a vessel measured in the past and at present and the operation data of the sulfur combustion furnace 1 in the past and the pH of the liq. 6' in the vessel is controlled by blowing the determined amts. of the C gas 4' and the air 5' into the sulfur combustion furnace 1. The blowing of a determined amts. of the C gas 4' and the air 5' into the sulfur combustion furnace is executed automatically through a main controller 9 and another control device. The control range of the pH of the liq. 6' in the vessel is preferably made within the range of 1.6-1.9. Accordingly, manpower is saved, the amt. of fuel to be used in the sulfur combustion furnace 1 is decreased and the furnace 1 is more stably operated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
