PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the array of the optical coupler array body which can distribute light signals almost equally with low loss. ;SOLUTION: First and second optical souplers... are determined in the increasing order of excessive loss (S3). It is determined that the 1st optical coupler is arrayed in the 1st stage of a tree (S4). It is determined that (i0Σn-2(mi)+1) th,..., (i0Σn-1(mi)th optical couplers... are arrayed in an (n)th stage of the tree (S6). Respective output stages are ranked in the decreasing order of light signal attenuation up to respective output terminals of optical couplers in an (n-1)th stage (S7). The order of the respective output terminals of the optical couplers of the (n-1)th stage and the order of the optical couples of the (n)th stage are combined to determine combinations of the both (S8). Consequently, the array of the optical coupler array body which can distribute light signals almost equally with low loss can be determined through easy calculation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
