Nerve-glia adhesion molecule Ng-CAM in the treatment of nerve damage

Neuron-glia cell adhesion molecule (Ng-CAM), alone or in combination with one or more additional agents, is useful in promoting the regeneration of a nerve in a subject having peripheral or spinal nerve damage. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising Ng-CAM are disclosed. Also provided are methods for diagnosing a neuronal disorder associated with abnormal levels of Ng-CAM and methods for assaying a test agent for its ability to enhance or inhibit the activity of Ng-CAM in promoting nerve regeneration.
