PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make photo-absorption measurement using the Zeeman effect which has a high background correcting ability and eliminate necessity for dismantlement of magnet which otherwise requires troublesome procedures. ;SOLUTION: A sample, hydrochloric acid, and sodium borahydride are fed by a peristaltic pump 10 and mixed together so that a hydride of metal is produced. The obtained gas-liquid mixture solution is separated by separator 12 into a sample gas and liquid a s remainder, and the sample gas is introduced to a heating part 30. Electric power is supplied from a power supply 28 so that the sample gas is heated, which is segregated into hydrogen and metal to be measured, and a sample metal vapor is produced to undergo measurement. The sample metal vapor is introduced to the measuring part 34 located between the magnetic poles of a magnet 32 and subjected to an atomic absorption analysis with background correction which uses the Zeeman effect.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
