PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems as a high cost of CdTe powder which is the material of CdTe films for solar batteries, a potential danger of drastic temp. rise when a powder mixture composed of Cd powder and Te powder being inexpensive materials, a change in properties when the materials are used for a source for forming the CdTe film once by a proximity sublimation method, absence of the CdTe powder with which the film formation by the proximity sublimation method is possible and the absence of the materials for forming the CdTe films which do not generate the gas of the Te, Cd alone in a low-temp. region below 400°C as the ratio of the Cd and the Te varies. ;SOLUTION: The powder 1 obtd. by subjecting the powder mixture composed of the Cd powder and the Te powder or the powder consisting of a heat resistant material is added to this powder and the powder is subjected to a heat treatment. The CdTe powder 1 with which the formation of the CdTe film by the proximity sublimation method is not possible is also heat treated at ≥350°C, by which the CdTe powder is safely produced from the inexpensive Cd powder and the Te powder.
