PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a sheath thermocouple to be directly soaked in a molten metal and improve temperature responsivity, by flame coating an oxidization- resistant metal to a surface of a metallic sheath, oxidizing or oxidizing.nitrifying the flame coated film and coating a ceramic film. ;SOLUTION: An oxidization-resistant metal is flame coated to a surface of a metallic sheath 1 of a sheath thermocouple. A flame coated film 5 is subjected to an oxidization treatment or an oxidization.nitrification treatment, onto which a ceramic film 3 is further coated. The coat film of a slurry ceramic paint prepared by blending a ceramic filler of an oxide, a nitride or the like and a ceramic binder of silicate, phosphate or the like exerts superior loss resistances to molten nonferrous metals. When the ceramic coat film is coated to a high-temperature oxidization film (including a high-temperature oxidization film under an environment including vapor), the loss resistances are exerted more superiorly. The ceramic coat film shows superior adhesion to the high- temperature oxidization film, because a surface is turned to be rough through the high-temperature oxidization.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
