PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the sound reducing device for an upright piano in which a smooth driving operation of the action by a post wire is maintained, sound leak generated from the gap between the keyboard and the back roof is sufficiently reduced and the efficiency of sound reduction is made reasonable. SOLUTION: The sound reducing device is constituted so that as a keyboard 6 provided on a shelf plate 2 is pressed, a post wire 8 erected at the back section of the keyboard 6 pushes up an action 13. Moreover, the post wire 8 is constituted of a lower post wire section 8a which is fixed to the keyboard 6 and an upper post wire section 8b which is connected to the section 8a in a freely rotatable manner in the front and the back directions. Furthermore, the device is provided with a guiding rail 15 which has a guiding hole 17 to guide the section 8b and a sound shielding member 16 which is mounted on the rail 15 and is continuously extended between the plate 2 and a back roof 10.
