PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly count the number of persons without being affected by the overlapping of persons in front-and-back and right-and-left directions, or sunlight fluctuation or shade or the like. ;SOLUTION: This device is provided with plural cameras 1 whose optical axes for fetching videos in the counting area of the number of persons are made in parallel, extracting part 5 which extracts persons based on picture data image picked-up by the plural cameras, tracing part 6 which traces the extracted persons, and judging part 7 which judges whether or not persons pass over a judgment line based on data obtained by the tracing part, and adds the number of passing persons. The extracting part 5 can exactly separate even persons overlapped in the depth direction by using spatial coordinate data obtained by correspondence among the plural pictures obtained in the same timing by the plural cameras 1. The judging part 7 judges that persons pass the judgment line when the starting point and ending point of the moving orbit of one person are respectively present at the both sides of the judgment line set an entrance and exit.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
