PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To spray water effectively over the whole area of a packed material, to prevent carry-over of water drops and to enhance cooling efficiency. ;SOLUTION: Circulating cooling water is sprayed over an open type heat exchanger positioned at each corner part of a machine frame of a square type counter flow type cooling tower from long slits in the opposite end parts of a water returning duct 40, while the circulating cooling water is sprayed also from a slit in the fore end of a rotating water spray pipe, at the corner part. Besides, at least one kind out of a notch, a round hole and the long slit is formed in the vicinity of the opposite end parts of the upper edge of an inside erect wall 41 of the water returning duct 40 and, therefore, the circulating cooling water is sprayed, in a state of overflowing, over the open type heat exchanger at the position of the corner part from the vicinity of the opposite end parts of the upper edge of the water returning duct.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
