CATALYST FOR OXIDATIVE DEHYDROGENATION REACTION AND PRODUCTION OF CARBONYL-CONTAINING COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a carbonyl-containing compound from an aromatic alcohol compound in safe and moderate reaction conditions without using a costly oxidation agent by producing a catalyst for production of the carbonyl- containing compound using a giant palladium cluster. ;SOLUTION: This catalyst to be used for carboxylation of hydroxyl group of an aromatic alcohol compound by oxidative dehydration reaction of the aromatic alcohol type compound such as benzylalcohol is produced using a giant palladium cluster. The giant palladium cluster is a compound having a formula: Pd₅₆₁Phen₆₀(OAc)₁₈₀ wherein Phen stands for 1,10-phenanthroline and Ac for acetyl group. A carboxyl-containing compound is produced by carboxylation of hydroxyl group of an alcohol type compound by oxidative dehydration reaction of the alcohol type compound in oxygen atmosphere in the presence of such a catalyst.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
