PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To converge quickly a tap coefficient by generating a pair of initial value based on a transmission analog signal, outputting an amplitudes error based on output of level detection and a transversal filter, and generating adaptively an initial value to which a characteristic of a transmission channel is reflected. ;SOLUTION: A tap coefficient generating section 60 generates a new tap coefficient using an amplitude error calculated by an amplitude error calculating section 46, a reproduced digital information signal and output from delay circuits 31-34. The newly generated tap coefficient is used for multiplication processing in multipliers 35-39, a tap coefficient is updated by feedback operation until a new pair of an initial values is inputted to the tap coefficient generating section 60 from a adaptive initial value generating section 80. Operations of each circuit in a waveform equalizer 70 other than the adaptive initial value generating section 80 can be stopped by a system controller while a decision process of an initial value is performed by the adaptive initial value generating section 80 using a reproduced analog signal of preamble data.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
