PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to exactly and quantitatively measure the reduction condition in a blast furnace and the combustion condition of the pulverized coal blown into the furnace from tuyeres by inserting a sonde into the barrel of the furnace and observing the inside of the furnace by the spectral sensor and optical fiber mounted at the front end of this sonde. SOLUTION: The sonde having the spectral sensor and the optical fiber is inserted into the barrel of the blast furnace and the light emission spectra by the carbon reduction reaction of the FeO in iron ore at the front end of the sonde are directly observed by the spectral sensor. The change in the intensity of the peak near a wavelength 580nm in the spectra is exactly measured by the ratio to the background and the progressing condition of the direct reaction of the FeO by C is exactly recognized. The light emission of the combustion flames of the pulverized coal blown from the tuyeres is spectrally analyzed by the optical fiber at the front end of the sonde and the light emission spectra of the alkaline metals, such as K, in the pulverized coal are measured. The combustion condition of the pulverized coal is thus exactly recognized and the reduction reaction in the respective parts in the furnace is exactly and quantitatively measured.
