PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove mercury and its compds. contained in hydrocarbon oil by using activated carbon having a specified specific surface area and a specified pore radius distribution. ;SOLUTION: This mercury adsorbent is made of activated carbon having 100-2,500m2/g specific surface area. In the activated carbon, the volume of pores each having ≤25Å pore radius is about ≥50%, preferably about ≥70%, especially preferably about ≥80% of the volume of pores each having ≤100Å pore radius and the volume of pores each having ≥100 A pare radius is ≤10%, preferably about ≤8% of the volume of pores each having ≤200-Å pore radius. The total pore volume of the activated carbon means the volume of micropores and transitional pores and it is about ≥0.1ml/g, preferably about 0.15-1.5ml/g.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
