PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful as agrochemicals for controlling damages to agricultural or horticultural crops by diseases. ;SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula I (R¹ and R² are each H, a 1-8C alkyl or the like; X¹ and X² are each O or S; Y¹ and Y² are each O, S or the like; and R is a 0-30C alkylene), e.g. bis(4-methyl-1,2,3-thiadiazole-5- carboxylic acid)ethylene. The objective compound is obtained by hydrolyzing and then halogenating a product from the reaction between compounds shown by formulas II and III (R' is a 1-8C alkyl; and R'' is a 1-4C alkyl or the like), after cyclizing the product with thionyl chloride, to produce a compound shown by formula IV (Hal is a halogen), and then by reacting it with a compound shown by formula V in the presence of a base in an inert solvent. The objective compound shows a very high controlling effect against crop diseases, including bacterial diseases, e.g. rice blast, wheat powdery mildew, grape downy mildew and cabbage slimy soft rot, and viral diseases, e.g. tobacco mosaic.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
