PURPOSE:To obtain printing wherein printing start positions are uniformly arranged by calculating the distance from the end of a passbook to the printing start position end thereof on the basis of the result detected by a printing start position end detection part and comparing the calculated distance with the preset center position value of the first character to calculate a correction value. CONSTITUTION:In order to detect whether a printing position is shifted or not, the end part where printing is carried out of a passbook 1 is detected by a passbook end detection part 14. The passbook 1 is moved to a CCD reading range to be matched with the final line of printing. When normality can be detected, the position N1 of the first character from the end of the passbook is read from the read data of the end part of the passbook 1 and the read position data of the end of the first character and, next, the position N from the end of the passbook to the center of the first character is calculated from N1 and N2 and the position data N is compared with the standard value (M1=M=M2) of the preset center position of the first character. When the calculated value N does not correspond to the standard value M, a correction value is calculated and the printing start position of a printing head 9 is corrected by a control part 7 through a printing head control part 10.
