NEW METHINE COMPOUND AND SILVER HALIDE PHOTOSENSITIVE MATERIAL CONTAINING THE SAME COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject material having high light absorption ratio and high sensitivity by including a new methine compound. SOLUTION: This new methine compound is represented by formula I [R1 and R2 are each an alkyl, with the proviso that at least either one of R1 and R2 is an alkyl substituted with a dissociative group; Z1 and Z2 are each an atomic group necessary to form a 5- or 6-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring; L is a divalent connecting group; M1 is a charge balance pair ion; (m1 ) is a number of 0-10 necessary to neutralize a charge of molecule; Q1 and Q2 are each a methine or a polymethine necessary to form a methine pigment). The compound of formula I includes specifically e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting, e.g. a reaction product of 5,6-dichloro-2-methyl-1-ethylbenzoimidazole with 1,4-dibromobutane with 5,6- dicloro-2-methylbenzoimidazole, reacting the reaction product with butanesultone and reacting the reaction product with a compound of formula III.
