PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attempt the improvement in the efficiency and speed of the recovery of polluted soil by microorganisms by measuring either the decrease of oxygen or the increase of carbon dioxide in a closed system or both of them and detecting the decomposition of organic pollutants in polluted soil by indigenous microorganisms. ;SOLUTION: The specimen G1 of polluted soil and oxygen O2 are sealed into a closed system, and either of the decrease of oxygen or the increase of carbon dioxide or both of them are measured. The decomposition of organic pollutants S in the specimen G1 of the polluted soil by indigenous microorganisms B is detected on the basis of the measurements. The microorganisms B, while consuming the oxygen O2, decompose the organic pollutants S in the specimen G1 of the polluted soil to produce carbon dioxide CO2. Therefore, the optimum environment to decompose the organic pollutants S in the polluted soil is detected. As a result, the decomposition efficiency of the organic pollutants by the microorganisms can be improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
