Novel sunscreen agent, light-protective cosmetic composition containing the same and use thereof

Silane or siloxane cpds. of formulae (I)-(III) contg. a benzylidene camphor, benzotriazole, benzimidazole or benzophenone gp., are new: B-Si(R)2-O-Ä-Si(R)2-O-Ür-Ä-Si(R)(A)-O-Üs-Si(R)2-B (I) A-Si(R`)3 (III) R = 1-10C alkyl, phenyl or 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl, at least 80% (by number) of R gps. being Me; R" = 1-8C alkyl or phenyl; r = 0-50; s = 0-20; provided that if s = 0 then the B gp(s). = A; u = 1-6; t = 0-10; t + u = at least 3; A = gp. of formula (A1)-(A4), bonded directly to Si; X1 = H or divalent gp. Y; Y = -SO2NR1-(CH2)p CHR2-CH2-, with the terminal CH2 bonded to Si; R1 = H, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C hydroxyalkyl; X2, X3 = H, halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, Y or Z or together form 1-2C alkylidenedioxy; Z = gp. of formula (a); provided that: one of X1-X3 = Y; if X1 = H, then X2 and X3 are different and neither can be Z; if X1 = Y, then X2 and X3 are not both Z; and if X1 = H and X3 = Y, then X2 is pref. other than H; X4 = H, 1-8C alkyl or Y; X5 = H, halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or Y; and R3 = 1-8C alkyl; provided that: one of X4 and X5 = Y. Also claimed are: (a) use of (I) (III) as sunscreens; (b) cosmetic compsns. for filtering ultraviolet rays; and (c) protection of skin and/or hair against ultraviolet rays.
