PURPOSE: To provide a mounting method and a fixed position detecting device capable of exactly and easily mounting a screw-defective workpiece to a correct position on a chuck of an NC lathe. ;CONSTITUTION: With a screw-workpiece loaded on a chuck, a specified position of the chuck is marked in relation to the screw-workpiece, and the screw part of the screw-workpiece is fitred in and held in the angular peripheral grooves of at least three supporting rods 8... loaded on a holding body 1. In this state, a position detecting sensor retractably loaded on the holding body 1 is positioned in relation to the mark to hold the detecting condition constant. The screw part of the screw-defective workpiece is loaded on a supporting rod 2... of the holding body 1 situated in this state and turned to be advanced, and the advanced position is detected by the position sensor. The detecting position in the circumferential direction in the advanced position is marked on the screw- defective workpiece, and thereafter the screw-defective workpiece is removed from the holding body 1, and fitted to the chuck so that the mark coincides with the specified position of the chuck when it is loaded on the chuck.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
