PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal polymer different from a cellulose (ether) ester, having more excellent chemical stability and readily utilizable at a low cost. ;SOLUTION: This liquid crystal main chain-type polymer is crosslinkable by a light as a coloring substance effective with interference and useful for colored coating material and in which a main-group mesomorphic phase-forming molecule is arranged at least about chiral-nematic state. A cellulose (ether) to be etherified or a mixture of plural cellulose (ether) to be etherified has the below-mentioned characteristics as a liquid crystal main chain-type polymer. The used cellulose ether has 500-1,000,000 molecular weight, whose anhydrous glucose unit is etherified with a propylene oxide unit (C3H6O unit) or an ethylene oxide unit (C2H4O unit) in 2-7 average molecule substituting degree and the whole cellulose ether is etherified with an unsaturated hydrocarbon residue {CrH2r-1 ((r) is 2-15)} in 1.5-3 average molecule substituting degree.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
