PURPOSE:To symmetrically mount a character string in a designated position in a slip by displaying the segment of a center line in a first rectangle, deciding the character mounting position of the character string of a linear symmetry based on this segment and successively mounting the character strings. CONSTITUTION:When the mounted character strings are two character strings consisting of a specification and the number of pages, an area 112 to be mounted on a screen 100 is designated by two diagonal points (a), (b) and the segment (c), (d) equally divided to the number of the mounted character strings and the mounted character string 113 are displayed. The lay out reference point of the character string 113 is selected from six positions disposed in the area 112. Then, when the lay out reference point is set to dc, at the time of changing the character size and the character interval of the character string 113, the rectangle circumscribed by the character string 113 is obtained and the other mounting rectangular area is formed as a rectangle 117 based on this rectangle 116. Then, in the rectangle 116, the character string is set and mounted by the previously designated point and the space and in the rectangle 117, the character string 118 is set and mounted with a maximum point stored in this rectangle.
