GLOSS FINISHING OF PAPER SHEET AND CALENDER FOR PRACTICING THE SAME METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a part of a film without being covered with a paper sheet from overheating in a method for passing the paper sheet through roll spacings formed among a heatable hard roll and soft rolls having an elastic film thereon and carrying out the gloss finishing of the paper sheet. SOLUTION: A paper sheet having a smaller width C1 than that of a film 6 and a cylindrical part 7 of a hard roll 2 is fed to roll spacings 9 and 10 and the relative positions in the axial direction of the respective rolls 2 and 3 are regulated on the basis of the sheet width C1 so as to provide the overhanging of the cylindrical part 7 of the film 6 from one sheet side 14 and the overhanging of the cylindrical part of the hard roll 2 from the other sheet side 15 within a prescribed permissible edge width (a). The calender 1 using the method is capable of regulating the positions in the axial direction of the respective rolls 2 and 3 and maintaining the films 6 exposed to both sides within the permissible edge width (a) even when performing the gloss finishing of the paper sheet different in width. Thereby, the film 6 can be prevented from overheating.
