The method involves processing a low-gloss fibrous web (W) that passes through a nip zone (N1) formed by two hard surfaces for pressing the fibrous web. The fibrous web is calendered in the hard nip zone, in which the nip zone has surfaces (10,11) pressing the web and arranged as hard matte-surface rough surfaces. The surfaces are manufactured to have a roughness of 0.2 to 1.0 micrometer, preferably a roughness of 0.4 to 0.6 micrometer, to calender the fibrous web to be matte-like. An independent claim is included for the calendering device.
