PURPOSE:To obtain the subject copolymer, containing an anthracene skeleton in the backbone chain, having a specific molecular weight, capable of improving strength, heat resistance and electric conductivity of polymers and suitable as a raw material for photosensitive, electrically conductive resins, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer, obtained by polymerizing (A) a vinyl compound (e.g. acrylic acid ester) containing 9-vinylanthracene and carbonyl group in the presence of a metal salt (e.g. tin tetrachloride) and treating the resultant copolymer with (C) trifluoroacetic acid, etc., in (B) a solvent (e.g. pentane), containing an anthracene skeleton expressed by the formula [R1 is H, 1-10C alkyl or halogen; R2 is H, 1-10C alkyl, OH, 1-10C alkoxy, halogen or amino; m and n are the respective monomer units in the copolymer to provide 5-95 ratio of 100Xm/m(m+n)] and having 1000-10000 molecular weight.
