NEW MATERIAL:A fluorine-contatning diarylethene derivative expressed by formula I (A and B are formula II or formula III; R1 and R4 are H or alkyl; R2 and R3 are H, alkyl or cyano; n is 2-5). EXAMPLE:1,2-Bis(1,5-dimethyl-2-cyano-4-pyrrolyl)-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluor ocyclopentene. USE:Useful for optical recording material, because the derivative expressed by formula I has photochromic property. The derivative expressed by formula I is colored and decolored in a short time and has good repeated endurance. The derivative expressed by formula I can provide new functional property to light-conditioning material such as sun glass or window, clothing or cosmetic. PREPARATION:For example, perfluorocycloalkene expressed by formula IV (n is 2-5) is reacted with 3-pyrrolyl or 3-indolyllithium derivative to provide the compound expressed by formula I.
