PURPOSE:To correctly position the tip position of a diamond for a table always by providing a 1st moving device moving the holder for a diamond dresser or one part of position detecting devices in the axial direction and a 2nd moving device moving a separated holder and position detecting device to relatively opposing positions. CONSTITUTION:A lever 11 located at the horizontal position is erected after pressing a grinding grindstone by the diamond dresser held on a holder 4, and a touch sensor 13 and dresser 1 are aligned. Voltage is impressed on a piezoelectric ceramics (1st moving device) 6 by a voltage impressing device 7. The piezoelectric ceramics 6 is elongated according to voltage, the tip of the diamond 2 is brought into contact with a detection part 14 and the touch sensor 13 is closed. The impressing voltage to the piezoelectric ceramics 6 is fixed based on the close signal of this sensor 13 and the tip of the diamond 2 is set again to the position at the front of the dressing, namely the position of a distance lfrom the face of a table 15.
