PURPOSE: To ensure timing specification as a functional macro, and to improve the degree of freedom at layout by making the timing control circuit of the functional macro constituted of the combination of a logical cell group into a hard macro, and laying out circuit other than the timing control circuit of the functional macro as a soft macro. ;CONSTITUTION: This method is constituted so as to be provided with an input step 5 which stores the connection information of a logic circuit including the functional macro and user logic, a preprocessing step 7 which inputs a library 6 including the function name of a logical cell and a part of the connection information of the functional macro and the connection information from the input step 5, and develops those hierarchically to the timing control circuit of the functional macro and the logic circuit other than this, and an arithmetic processing step which inputs the library 8 including the layout information of the logical cell and the output of the preprocessing step 7, and executes automatic layout.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
