PURPOSE: To obtain 6(R)-[2-(8(S)-hydroxy-2(S),6(R)-dimethyl-1,2,6,7,8,8a(R)- hexahydronaphthyl)-ethyl]-4(R)-hydroxy-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-one.triol acid as an inhibitor to HMG-COA reductase useful as a hypercholesterolaemia inhibitor by treating a specified compd. with Clonostachys compactiuscula ATCC38009 and recovering the resultant product. ;CONSTITUTION: A compd. represented by formula I or its ammonium salt is treated with Clonostachys compactius cula ATCC38009, its varied strain or hydrolase obtd. from them and the resultant product is recovered to obtain the objective compd. represented by formula II or its salt.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
