PURPOSE:To improve the resolution by making a staggered arrangement column construction with (n) display element columns and delaying the back column display timing with respect to the front column display timing so that the pictures on the display element columns are shown in the same column of the residual picture screen. CONSTITUTION:A speed detecting section 1, which has a built-in sensor, detects the existence of an observer and his speed information and transmits the data to a control signal generating section 2. In that section, a frequency and the amount of delay are determined based on the transmitted speed information, generates the control signals and stores the data read from a memory by latch circuits 3 and 6. The latch circuits 3 and 6 latch the data when latch lock RCK0 and RCK1 are active and the data are shown during that period. By varying the latch lock according to the moving speed of the observer, a construction of the same interval picture against the observer is realized. Display element drivers 4 and 7 drive display element columns 5 and 8. Thus, the columns of the staggered arrangement display columns are driven.
