In the present invention, there are disclosed derivatives of the general formula I and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. These compounds exhibit inhibition activity to the action of acyl coenzyme of A cholesterol acyl transferase (ACAT) and inhibit lipoperoxidation in mammals. They are particularly suitable for prevention and treatment of arteriosclerosis, hyperlipaemia, arteriosclerosis accompanying diabetes mellitus and cerebrovascular, cardiovascular, and ischemic diseases.
