Bacterial compositions comprising a medium (based on) N, P and/or super solution and Agrobacterium rhizogenes and/or Bacillus subtilis and/or Bacillus licheniformis and/or Bacillus megaterium and/or Flavobacterium oceano-sedimentation and/or Flavobacterium marino-typicum, are capable of decomposing hydrocarbon contaminants found in soils both under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Bacterial compositions comprising a medium (based on) N, P and/or super solution and Agrobacterium rhizogenes and/or Bacillus subtilis and/or Bacillus licheniformis and/or Bacillus megaterium and/or Flavobacterium oceano-sedimentation and/or Flavobacterium marino-typicum, are capable of decomposing hydrocarbon contaminants found in soils both under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Soils are treated at a maximum application rate of 1 kg/m2. The composition is applied uniformly to the whole area preferably in three equal portions. The soil is turned over and 20-30 l/m2 of a nutrient solution prepared from the bacterial mixture and/or sugar solution is watered in. Conversely, contaminated soil may be removed and arranged in stacks of prisms or pyramids prior to treatment. Stacks may be covered in foil tents and provided with aerating tubes. A maximum of 5000 g of bacterial composition is added for each cubic meter of stacked soil, distributed uniformly using agricultural machinery.
