摘要
The invention refers to a variety of gumbo called "Acme" which is obtained by repeated individual selection from a segregating population, and is recommended for cultivation in all favourable areas in the country, especially in the south, south-west and west of the country, being designed for fresh consumption and industrialisation. The plants of the Acme variety have stalks of average height (65-82 cm), an average degree of ramification and green penta-lobed leaves. The flowers are solitary, with yellow-sulphurous petals, purplish-blue macula and a flimsy calyx. At technological maturity, the capsules have an elongated prismatic shape with a tapered top (3.5 - 4.9 cm long, 1.4 - 1.7 cm thick), have no thorns, are light-green and have a fine buttery and meaty pulp. The seeds are small, brown, and circular in cross section, and the weight of 1000 seeds is 60 g. It is a semi-late variety with a vegetation period of 71 days. This variety displays tolerance to gumbo diseases, especially to Erysiphae abelmoschi and Verticillium dahliae. This variety produces 4.7 tones of capsules per hectare.
