Polyvinyl ester dispersions having a hydrosol of a complex salt of a metal from subgroup 4 of the periodic table of the elements with an organic a-hydroxy and/or a-oxo acid as seed base, which hydrosol comprizes a surface-active substrate, are suitable as adhesive and coating compositions.
