The loader has a handling boom (3) to grip and handle the logs which is movable longitudinally and transversely on the bridge of the barge (1) or boat. The boom has a gripper (4) at one end mounted on the slope or the bridge perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the barge. The logs are each moved by reciprocating actuators along the longitudinal axis. The gripper can be a crane (5) movably mounted on a carriage (6) which displaces the crane on a transverse axis with respect to the barge.
