A transformerless power conversion systemincluding a plurality of capacitors connected in series;a charging circuit connected to the plurality ofcapacitors, the charging circuit charging the pluralityof capacitors from a voltage source to a predeterminedvoltage; a circuit for inverting the polarity of thecharge stored in selected capacitors of the plurality ofcapacitors, the polarity inverting circuit including aplurality of inductor circuits, each of which can beswitchably coupled to a corresponding different one ofthe selected capacitors to form a resonant circuit whichaids in inverting the polarity of a stored charge in thatcapacitor; and a discharging circuit for extracting powerfrom the plurality of capacitors at a transformedvoltage.
