Arrangement comprising a magnetic-tape-cassette apparatus with a deck and with aloading mechanism for magnetic-tape cassettes, and magnetic-tape cassettes. The invention relates to an arrangement comprising a magnetic-tape-cassette apparatus, which apparatus comprises a deck and a loading mechanism (32)having a holder for magnetic-tape cassettes (3, 13), into which holder the cassettes canbe inserted, and magnetic-tape cassettes (3, 13) having recesses (6) in plane-parallelmain walls (7a, 7b; 18, 19) and having in a side wall (8, 17) interconnecting the mainwalls (7a, 7b; 18, 19) access openings (9, 10) for the entry of a sound head andpressure rollers, a detection mechanism being provided in order to handle magnetic-tapecassette types (3, 13) with different tape-recording standards and housingconfigurations, which detection mechanism senses the cassette side wall (8, 17) havingthe access openings (8, 17) and comprises a sensing element which upon insertion of acassette, depending on the cassette type, either moves past this cassette wall (8, 17) orengages a guide profile in order to be positioned before a sliding cover of this cassettetype and move said cover so far that the access openings are exposed, the detectionmechanism (41) being activated upon insertion of a magnetic-tape cassette in alongitudinal direction in which the tape spools are juxtaposed in that the short side wallwhich faces forward during insertion moves the sensing pin without the sliding cover atthis instant already being urged towards the position in which it exposes the accessopenings, and as insertion proceeds the sensing pin moves to the long cassette side wall(8, 17) having the access openings (9, 10) and moves along this wall, the sensing pindetecting the cassette type just inserted and depending on its construction either movesfreely past said wall up to the end of the insertion path for the one type or engages theguide profile in order to open the sliding cover (16) towards the end of the insertionpath for the other type.(Fig. 2)
