The invention is generally directed tomethods of promoting normal respiratory tract airflowin patients with restricted airflow and ciliary5 clearance caused by the presence of pathological airwaycontents, and particularly mucoid contents. Actin-binding proteins are administered into the respiratorytract of a patient with a pathological respiratorycondition involving the presence of such contents. The10 actin-binding protein binds to actin polymers in thecontents and decreases the viscosity. The actin-binding proteins also prevent actin from binding toexogenous or endogenous DNase I, thus increasing thedegradation of DNA polymers in the contents.
