The device has at least one blade unit which comes into contact with a tree trunk and is connected to a hydraulic work cylinder supporting against ground. With the aid of the hydraulic work cylinder, the blade unit is moved along the tree trunk, removing branches and twigs from it. Preferably, the upper blade unit is arranged at the upper end of a blade support beam and a lower blade unit is arranged at the lower end of the same blade support beam, which is connected with the work cylinder and runs parallel with it.
