The base (21C) of the fork has an enlarged portion (23) around the housing (25) for the immobilizing element (29) so that the splined shaft of the fork (21) can lock axially with the immobilizing element (29) engaging tangentially in the annular recess in the shaft; the said housing (25) also accommodates the immobilizing element (29) with tapered portion (29A) and a clamping member (31) that screws into an internal screw thread (25B) formed adjacent to the mouth of the said housing (25); the clamping member (31) is therefore enclosed within the thickness of the enlarged portion (23) and drives the immobilizing element (29) into the active state.
