Process for the recovery of copper from oxidized metalworking wastes by leaching with a solution of ammonium hydroxide which results in the formation of ammoniacal copper (II) complexes and separation of the metal from the mother liquor which is obtained by precipitation (with iron or zinc) or by solvent extraction (using acid extraction agents), regenerating the leaching solution by neutralizing the acid produced in the extraction of copper with the ammoniate of the metal complex.
